Spade AK. Diamond A. Spade to J. Finess diamond
This line fails if the opponent keeps 4 diamonds. You need to finesse the heart first so you can re-enter your hand.
I cashed the A♦ after 2 rounds of trumps - and West threw a Diamond on the third round of Spades (when crossing back over to South's J♠). So I made the contract but not sure this is the best way to declare the hand.
As long as you finessed the heart before the diamond you took the right line of play.
Cash Ad before spade to j?
Yes better to cash the ♦A before crossing the first time. It is only a slight technical improvement. It helps when the heart ace is offside and they play 3 hearts right back at you making you burn your other trump entry so you cant cash the diamond and get back to your hand. So cashing the ace helps when the ace of hearts is offside and the diamond queen is stiff. The reality in this bidding is that we know the ace of hearts is onside so it won't matter when you cash the ace of diamonds.
