In Hand one, why is east not doubling one spade. 1S x 2S 3H
Double is a very possible choice, but it leaves east in quite an uncomfortable position if partner responds 2D.
As the only one (so far) who went down in 5♠ on Board 9, I'm glad to hear that Gavin & Robert say that the heart guess was a tough call! I thought it was more likely that the 4NT bidder had 2 hearts after showing out in spades.
Love it. Would be nice to have double dummy analysis available. Would be nice to be able to see how others bid and played the hand.
When I first tried this we were able to play with audio/video, As of now, I don't have that ability. Audio/Video setting is checked on both my partner's and my computer. Has this great feature been disabled?
Yes we have disabled this feature until we can come up with a better way for letting the player decide if they want it. Right now we only have two settings "on" or "off". When it is on, it means even people who had no idea that they were going to be on video sometimes ended up on video. So we just disabled it and for now you can do the same thing yourself by starting a zoom or facetime.
Hand 1. I was looking at older versions of bidding (Kaplan, Ewen these guys) and it seems Kaplan would have said 3.5 QT and is willing to take a lot risk with a 5 card suit (level 2 for risk). I think he might have bid 2C or 1NT. I notice Ewen seemed to recommend double with correction for 4-5 shapes, leaving Michaels for 5-5. I think they Robert Ewen would have doubled and after no interference and a 2D response bid 2H to show the shape. In practice the double finds the fit. With that approach they jump rebid to show stronger single suited hands after the initial double. Does anybody play doubles with correction for 4-5 shapes anymore. It seems plausible.
No at some point it was just understood that we needed a way to show hands that are too strong to overcall. This is the universal treatment. The one exception is with 5 Diamonds and 4 Hearts after the opponents open 1♠. A lot of people play that doubling and correcting partner's 2♣ response to 2♦ doesn't show extra strength but rather a hand like ♠xx ♥AQxx ♦AJxxx ♣Jx. I prefer to just play all those doubles followed by a new suit as "power doubles". In today's day and age with people opening aggressively we need to be able to show partner when we have 17+ points and a long suit.
on bd 8, E doubled. I bid 2cl feeling 1nt doubled was going to be a bad score. Was that correct?
I don't think its right to pull to a 4 card suit. You know your right hand opponent has 18, but you dont know who has the balance of the points between their partner and your partner. I wouldn't run in this spot from your perspective. Partner may run away themselves, but its not your job.

After hand completions, the results screen is not clear. Also in listening to the video, the voice is not in sync.
We will have a fix for the results screen in a couple weeks (ive been promised by August 10th) The video sync thing was complicated. Rob edited the video and it was really hard for him to align it because it was all recorded over zoom and then chopped up into small parts. I even tried to edit it afterwards and it was beyond my pay grade. If any expert video editors out there want to try their hand at it I would be happy to give them the files.
How do i invite my partner to play the hands with me
Click on the @ sign where it says "Robot @' on the seat where you want your partner to sit, and enter his/her email address. They will get an email from Shark Bridge with an invitation, and as soon as they accept the invite, they will see the bridge table and the deal you choose. You can invite 3 other friends and all 4 of you can practice together.
