2022 World Bridge Series in Poland

Every four years the WBF holds a championship that is open to anyone to play. This year's World Bridge Series is being held in Wroclaw, Poland from August 20th through September 3rd. I am here along with the Spector team to compete for the "Rosenblum Cup". This unique transnational championship allows for people to play with anyone, regardless of which country they represent.
The Rosenblum starts Saturday August 20th with a two-day, 10-match Swiss. After two days, the roughly 80 teams will be reduced to 32 teams for a KO which begins on Monday August 22nd. The event will be broadcast on BBO but only some tables will appear so we may not be on vugraph unless we make it deeper in the event.

Thanks for the analysis. While disappointed, your attitude to move on and get ready for the next tournament is good advice to those of us who dwell on bad play and mistakes. I look forward to taking your classes in September!!
Looks like team Spector is coming home early? not sure I like the format, your thoughts?
I'm definitely not a fan of the format. We were + more imps (net +35 imps over 2 days) than most of the low qualifiers, and we played more teams that qualified than most of the non qualifiers. There is a lot of randomness in who you play against and when in these Swiss style events. Regardless of the format, there is no excuse for us not qualifying. Our team just didn't play up to our standard. In this tournament we ran into a lot of random system or judgement swings. As an example, there was one hand early in the tournament where Warren opened 3♦ (like most of the field) and I responded 3NT. At our table the opponent overcalled 4♥ and bought a nice hand from their partner and made it. At other tables that went 3D pass 3NT, they passed and 3NT went down 1. Our opponent at the other table chose to open 4♦ with a normal 3♦ opening and now it went pass 5♦ and our teammates couldn't get in. This is a completely random swing based on being at the right table right time. With that said, our team just didn't play well. We are good enough that we should be able to handle the variance of our opponents being unusually lucky for a stretch of a day or two. We cant afford to be unlucky AND play badly. With bad luck and bad play, we were still +35 imps over 2 days and some of the teams that qualified were +19 or +20, but did it in a more efficient way with Victory Points. Its disappointing to say the least, but there are worse things in life than losing at bridge. On to the next one.
Your honest assessment of the format and play is appreciated. Much to be learned. But appreciated above all is your good sportsmanlike attitude. Thank you for your important influence on this wonderful game.
