B8 So I think you cleared something up for me. 4C doesn't demand a control. It asks for a control ONLY if Opener is a Max hand or has something extra to go on. Is that right?
It really doesnt ask for controls at all. It is a quantitative bid. In the auction 1N-2♣-2♥-4♣, there is only one bid available below 4♥. In this auction opener's options are 4♥ = minimum 4♦ = "I have some interest but not enough to drive" or to go beyond 4♥ (usually by bidding blackwood). There isnt enough room to explore controls in this auction, kind of like a normal quantitative auction (without stayman) doesnt allow for controls either. After 1N-2♣-2♠-4♣, opener now has two choices, so I would assume 4♦ shows a diamond control and some interest (not enough to drive) and 4♥ would say I have some interest without a diamond control, just because we have it available.
