Gavin In one of the post mortems, you discussed a notrump hand with a leading of the A from AKxx would you do the same thing from KQxx? Further we had a hand where east was on lead - with the following hand - what would you have lead? K, 10, 9, 4 K, Q, 10, 3 9,4,2, Q,2 Please let me know, Susan
There needs to be an auction to know what to lead. Say 1NT P P P. I would lead a heart honor, either K or Q by partnership agreement. The hearts are stronger and also safer than the spades.
Hi Gavin, thanks for the hands and excellent commentary again. Couple of odd bids by Lia on this set - probably a query to the programmers rather than to you. On board 3, after 1S by W overcalled 2H by N, if E makes a negative double then Lia as S bids 3H but if E passes she also passes - this is actually okay but after W bids 2S passed back to S, she passes again rather than bidding 3H - must be wrong surely. Then on board 7, after Lia, S opens 1D, W makes a takeout double and N bids Truscott 2NT (which Lia seems to play so I did), Lia then bids 3H - isn’t 3D normal here over the 2NT invite with a minimum? Yes 3D would be normal on the minimum, as you say.
Board 2, 4H N, what would you lead?
4H by south a spade lead seems right, not wanting to lead away from any honor cards. If it went 1C 1H 4H and north declared, I would probably lead a spade anyway because of the sequence. There is no way of knowing partner has the diamond king, although a diamond is possible simply as a safe choice.
