Board #7 - 2C - 2H - Pass = Game Going XX = Bad Hand What if the Interference is a Double? Are Systems still ON (playing Hazel's Strong 2C Opening System) ie 2H is a Bust? Or the Pass/XX still the method to use? Thanks again for all the Help!
I would play XX is a bust and pass is a positive. 2♦ would become natural and positive.
board 6 instead of 2♦ raise could you bid 3♣ mixed raise?
I do not play jumpts to 3m -1 are mixed in comp if thats what youre referring to. I only do it for majors, so we can get to good games. There is no edge in doing that for minors because a simple raise will get us to game (3NT) when we need to. But in particular I would definitely not make a habit of jumping to the 3 level with a possible 7-8 card fit.
Hi Gavin, Looking at Bd 4 at the 1:08 marker- the bidding goes 1S, X, 3D- which you said was Bergen. My question is- playing your system where 3D shows a limit raise and 4 cd support, would your system be on after the double? Or should we use Jordan? (I am in a study group where we are trying to incorporate your system- so we want to understand fully) Thanks in advance.
I am suprised I would say that 3♦ was bergen. I probably said if you play bergen and you play they are on over double then thats fine. The important thing is that you and your partner are on the same page. **I don't play systems on after they double 1M.** I play 1M (X) - 2NT is jordan. showing limit + with 4 card support 1M (X) 3M-1 = a 4 card mixed raise. (for example: 1S (X) 3H = 4 spades 7-9 )

gavin, hi ! board 7 : standard system is that 2c (2h) p is FG and 2c (2h) dbl is bust hand. please share the different methods now played by experts.
new experts play double is takeout, pass says nothing but from there you are on your own. I don't even understand how it works, but they all do it. I've seen it frequently work out badly for experts to play takeout yet they all think its the right way to play.
Quick question about Board 6. Opp opened 1NT, we called the director, illegal bid. Opp stated “we’re not playing ACBL rules,” then “I’ve seen Gavin open 1NT with a singleton” (a singleton nine?). No big deal, but would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.
I would prefer people didn't open with singletons but theres not a lot we can do about it. There are no results in this game so its not like penalizing them will matter. After they have done it its over. I asked Mine at the time to ask them not to do it again. Thats the best we can do. They have never seen me open with a singleton 9. I play in the ACBL 99% of the time I play where I follow the rules which say only singleton A,K or Q are allowed.
On board 2, the opps bid at the one level, my partner (S) doubled, and I bid 1NT. When partner responded 4H, I thought he was transferring me to spades. He wasn't. ;-) Systems are off in this situation? Thanks! Wendy
1NT by advancer showed a decent hand over partner's takeout double (7-11 High Card Points). Any bid the takeout doubler makes would be forcing and show a strong hand (when you double and bid again it shows a big one). There wouldn't be any use for stayman because the 1NT bidder denied a 4 card major. We play systems on after 1N, 2NT, or when we directly overcall 1NT, 2NT or 3NT showing a strong hand. We also play systems on when we open 2C and rebid 2NT (since we still need stayman and transfers here)

Thanks Ann, We have 1 more week next week on June 27th then we will pause until September. I will resume with the postmortem / Duplicate Games in September. I am contemplating offering two seperate games weekly, one of which will be geared towards my master series students. I will figure out my fall schedule over the next month or so.
Gavin, I agree with Ann. These are the most instructive videos I've ever seen and hope you keep offering them during the Fall even if there is a charge. Would you please consider keep running the games the next 2 months even if you can't do the postmortem? This is a nice group of players and we can learn a lot from our mistakes. Thanks for the kind words about the sessions. We have decided not to run the games for the summer. These games are a lot of effort beyond just having a director there during the game. There is a lot of emailing and helping people to find them / get registered / find the partnership desk etc. We need a break from all of it for the summer.
