On the first hand you suggested that with 5M5M GI hand to transfer to Hearts and rebid spades. Could this also be 5H4S? If not, how to bid this? One approach is to use the transfer and rebid in spades to show 5H4S and use Stayman and rebid Spads with 5M5M. If Opener pulls to 2N rebid 3H. Works until opener is xx in both majors.
You can play 1N-2♦-2♥-2♠ is either 4-5 or 5-5 invitational. I do that with my regular partners. Over that you play 3♣ says I accept game with only 3 spades.
On board 6 you teach us to play Multi-Landy over 1m-(1NT). AND, in your MultiLandy lesson you teach us that 1NT-(2NT) is **Unusual** (I understand that this is not technically part of Multi-Landy, but coexists with it). So in that context... 1. Is 1minor-(1NT)-2NT **Unusual** (or cue)? 2. Is 1Major-(1NT)-2NT **cue** (or **Unusual**)? 3. You said with 10+p you would "always" double 1grape-(1NT). Does that hold even with a shaped hand (longsuit or void)? a defensively weak hand? a vulnerable game making hand?
Great question. I would play 2NT is a limit raise or better in that auction if partner opened a major. When partner opened 1m I would typically just double when I have a good hand. I don't think I've ever held a hand that wanted to bid 2NT for the minors, but I also don't htink I've ever held a limit raise that wanted to show it for a minor. I guess it should be a fit for a minor too. 3. With a major fit I might look for game instead, particularly if i have a singleton in a different suit that I can see my opponents will almost certainly run to.
Can I use all the general advice in your videos at IMPs too, or do they mostly apply at Matchpoint games??? Hand 3: You say, we will earn a lot of matchpoints, if we compete over 1nt when we have a singleton. Does the same apply at IMPs? You say something similar in another video with a 11hcp hand opposite a 12-14nt. "Do not invite. You will earn a lot of matchpoints". Does the same apply at IMPs? In many serious tournaments the scoring is IMPs. Can I count on you to make it clear, when your advice is only valid for a specific type of scoring? Or should I assume, that you only talk about matchpoints? Thank you for all your teaching online. It is really great to watch it all.
In general you can apply everything I say to both games. 3) Yes balancing when you have a small singleton works well at Imps. With 11 HCP not inviting opposite 12-14 is just as productive at IMPS You cannot count on me to make it clear because I don't think about it when I am talking. Just know that I play the two games very similarly. A couple major differences: 1) I am more willing to double my opponents at matchpoints 2) I am more willing to compete knowing I am going down at matchpoints. Otherwise the games play very similarly.

Agree with your assessment. It might be right to balance, but your two points of the opps not having a fit and partner not leading a diamond definitely are the right things to be thinking about.
Thanks for a great lesson. On B3 if South balances 2♥, should West bid 2N with a double stopper in ♥? What would be double? Penalty or forcing?
No the NT bidder would not bid again other than possibly making a takeout double or showing a 5 card suit. They should be content to defend 2H with two heart stoppers. They have already shown their strength, there is no reason to get back involved. Partner could have 0. Double of 2H would be takeout. It is never right for the 1NT bidder to compete to 2NT.

Hello Gavin. Board 1. You suggested stayman over 1NT and then bidding 2H over 2D would say "partner pick the major ... I have a weak 5/5". I am interested in the bidding with 5/4 and weak. In the UK most start with stayman and play that rebidding a major over 2D is a weakness takeout with 5/4 - to play. With weak 5/5 I would transfer to spades and pass - not so good here! I do see the downside of this sequence.
Even if you think 2♣-2♦-2♥ shows 4-5 weak, you are still better off going that route. You still end up in a 5 card suit and in the process have the opportunity to find a 9 card fit. I would bid the same way with 4-5 weak as well. So when I am 3-3 as opener I would typically leave partner in 2♥. I dont think I said 2♣-2♦-2♥ says "I have a weak 5-5". It just says "I have a weak hand with both majors".
Board 4: I know it's unlikely, but what if North switched to a heart after taking the diamond ace? Do you still try the club finesse?
Yes you duck two rounds of hearts and see they are 5-2 and then safely take the club finesse.

North should raise to 2H. 2H shows 6-10 points with 3 card support. I wouldnt spend any energy worrying about the quality of my king of diamonds. "MUST SHOW FIT" :)
