Board 9: if partner opens 1C and opponents bid 2C Michaels you suggest 2D as non forcing. Please explain why this is non forcing. I actually play negative free bids (not that i like them) with a couple of partners but I don't think this is a bid advocated by you. Thank you.
When the opponents bid Michaels or Unusual 2NT we play "unusual vs unusual". 1♣ (2♣) 2♦= To play with diamonds less than a game force 2♥= Limit Raise or better in clubs (cheaper cuebid) 2♠= Game forcing with diamonds (more expensive cuebid) 3♣= To Play with a club fit. B5 What would be a good plan for 3♠ by South? I initially tried to set up diamonds but was forced to do dummy reversal (hand shortened twice). B9 what should South do over 1♣-(1♠)? I passed hoping to have another chance which never came.
I don't see why you would be forced to do a dummy reversal after the second heart ruff? After the second heart you can cross to dummy's ace of clubs and take a spade finesse. They can't tap you a third time. Board 9: Pass or 3D are both ok. 3D shows a weak hand with diamonds. You'd like to have a better suit but you have a decent hand. This 3♦ bid shows a hand not good enough to bid 2♦, so 6-9 points"ish".
On board 3 we got to 4 spades via 1S-3S-4S. Then North chips in with 5 clubs! Double or defend. I found the decision very tricky. With so many HCPs, I htought 5 spades would make. It shouldn;t, but I dropped the Q of clubs, and sneaked 11 tricks home.
5 level decisions are never easy, but I live by the saying "The 5 level is for the opponents." It is very rarely right to bid 5 over 5. If I have a close decision, I always lean towards doubling rather than bidding 5 over 5.
On board 4 west opened 1c east bid 1s west rebid 2s and east rebid 4s. should west investigate slam or pass 4s
West has no business bidding again after 4♠. For all they know East has a minimum 12-13 point game force and you will be lucky to make game. You've already opened a 9 count!! If west wanted to bid more their chance was at their second turn, they'd have to jump to 3♠ to show 16-18 which would be an insane overbid. My auction would be 1♣-1♠-2♠-4♠-Pass
